There once was a time when I had no gym membership and I did all of my workouts at home. It was about 6 years ago, my husband and I were living in a two bedroom apartment and we turned the master suite into our very own gym. We had a squat rack with an olympic bar and over 1000lbs of weights, including barbells, dumbbells and various weight plates. We also had a cable machine which had two separate cables, high and low so we had numerous attachments for it. Plus I had a treadmill, a stationary bike and other various workout equipment, like stability balls, medicine balls and resistance bands but one thing we didn’t have, were kettlebells.
At the time, I didn’t use kettlebells at all and I didn’t even really know how to use them properly.
Nowadays, I no longer have a gym at home, because I don’t have the extra room so I have a place in my room where I keep my various exercise equipment; one of them being a small set of kettlebells. I have a few sizes of kettlebells, but the largest I have is an 8kg. I’m on the look out for a larger kettlebell, but I can never seem to find them any larger unless they are online, but then you pay an arm for shipping!
Today I walked into my gym, and to my surprise I saw a bunch of kettlebells on the floor. I quickly made my way over there and sure enough, there were kettlebells of all colours and sizes….and I smiled when I saw that big blue 12kg staring right back at me. It was the largest size there and it is sure as hell better than my 8kg at home.
Naturally, I was excited and I had to do some swings. I’m really working on my swings and at home, with only having the 8kg I feel like I’m ready to go up in weight. I’ve used dumbbells at the gym before, but swinging a 30lb dumbbell is a little more awkward than using a kettlebell.
Basically I did this workout without even thinking about it. I just set my timer, quickly thought of four exercises and started my workout.
I was actually going in to the gym for an extra cardio day anyway, it was like destiny.
+ Gymboss Interval Timer
+ Kettlebell – I used 12kg and 8kg
Set your timer for 12 rounds of 50 seconds and 10 seconds.
During each 50 second interval, complete the following exercises in the exact order below.
Figure 8’s with Oblique Twist
Kettlebell Burpee with Alternating High Pull (alternating after each burpee)
Lateral Lunge (alternating after each rep)
I usually get my workout done in the morning before I go to work, which makes for a super early rise each morning. I’m talking 4:30 am!
Now that the daylight is much shorter, the rough mornings of not wanting to get out of bed have begun. The worst is when you hear your alarm clock nagging you to get out of bed so early when you are just so warm and comfy wrapped up in your blankets, but once I get up, and get moving I get so pumped to go workout! I feel like sometimes I sacrifice my late night social life because I go to bed early, so I can get up in the mornings and workout before work. As much as I love to go out with friends, I also love how amazing I feel after a good workout!
I love my morning routine!
